This week was such an eventful week for our family. You handled it so well! On top of Mommy having surgery, your Daddy was heading to Minnesota for an interview. He had applied to Carleton College, in Northfield for a temporary Professor position. We were so excited for him to have the opportunity to go to campus for another interview. Unfortunately, your Dad had to leave before Mommy got home from the hospital. We had Nana staying with us so she could help Mommy lift you through out the day. Since I had been on so many pain medications with surgery, I was still unable to nurse you. SInce I had been at the hospital Daddy had to give you formula for the first time. I tried to pump as much as I could at the hospital but because they wouldn’t let Mommy eat anything, I wasn’t getting much milk. You however, were eating like a champ. That made Mommy feel so much better knowing that you were getting enough to eat while I was gone.

Daddy had to be gone for two days and we missed him terribly. The interview went really well and Daddy felt great about the opportunity he may have.

Your Grandma Wiebold and Great Grandma Hanson got in the car ASAP and drove out to Madison. They were able to pick up your Auntie Megan on the way out. Between the three of them, and your Daddy, they were going to take extra good care of you. On Monday afternoon Mommy had to go into a procedure to remove the stone that was caught in the bile duct. Your Daddy was there when I woke up and the rest of the evening Mommy was pretty out of it. I was pretty sad that I didn’t get to see you today. It was so hard being away from you. Your Daddy made sure to get home and be with you before bed… He sent me this picture and it melted my heart!

Surgery was scheduled for tomorrow and I was so glad that I didn’t have to wait any longer. Your Nana was on her way out to be with us after my surgery. I really wanted to see you before my surgery but the nurses wouldn’t let me leave the floor. I begged them to at least be able to go to the elevator lobby so that I could visit with you for a little while. They agreed, I’m not sure I would have listened had they said no… I gave you tons of kisses and hugs. You were so happy as was I. It was pretty emotional seeing you but it made Mommy so happy to see how much love you were getting while I was away.

Nana made it just in time to see me before I went in for surgery. I was glad to see her. They took me back for surgery and within about two hours I was awake and felt great. Everything went well and I was happy to see your Daddy and Nana waiting for me in my room. Because everything went so well the doctors were hoping to send me home the next day. YEAH…

Early Sunday morning around 1 AM Mommy woke up with excruciating pain in her stomach. I didn’t think much of it since it felt like the pain that I had recently been experiencing with my gallbladder. I was scheduled to have gallbladder surgery on April 12th. I couldn’t stay laying in bed because it hurt so bad, so I decided to go to the couch where it progressively got worse. I knew that you and Daddy were sleeping soundly so I tried to make it through until morning. I felt as if I was in labor again but didn’t know when this pain was going to go away or if it was going to get worse. Around 6:30 AM I woke your Daddy up and told him to call the doctor. I had gotten sick a handful of times and I thought the pain was getting worse. I knew that you would be waking up soon and we needed to figure out what to do. The doctor advised us to go to the ER right away. Thankfully Grandpa Adams and Janet were staying at a hotel near by and they came over right away. I needed to feed you but I wasn’t feeling well and the slightest pressure on my stomach sent me into a painful state. As any Mom would do, I suffered through the pain and nursed you until I couldn’t do it anymore. I felt so bad…

I left without saying goodbye, which was something I was sad about as soon as I realized I wouldn’t be returning home. The ER wasn’t busy by time we arrived at 8AM… It took a lot of questions and pushing on my stomach before they gave me pain medicine. Your Daddy was so great and he counted down the minutes until the medicine would kick in. As soon as I felt relief everything felt so much better. I was diagnosed with Pancreatitis, which is an inflammation of the pancreas. It was caused by a gallstone that was lodged in the bile duct. The doctors explained that I wasn’t able to go home until they surgically removed my gallbladder.

The first thing that ran through my mind was that I couldn’t come home to you. I knew you were going to be ok but I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel being away from you. Many phone calls later to family, your Daddy went home to see you and pick up all of Mommy’s belongings that I needed. He was going to bring you back to the hospital so I could see you before you went to bed. We didn’t want you to come up to the floor that I was staying on since it had some very sick people.  It was a beautiful evening so I met you and Daddy outside. You were fascinated by the machine that Mommy was hooked up to and you wanted to push all of the buttons. Seeing you made me feel so good and I knew that everything was going to be ok…

A very long day later they were able to do Mommy’s surgery… To my doctors surprise, I had a never ending amount of gallstones.

Grandma and Grandpa Wiebold were coming to visit and Mommy and Daddy were excited to go on some dates. You loved to be spoiled by your Grandparents and they loved spoiling you. Mommy and Daddy went out for lunch one of the days and even enjoyed a nice cold beverage. We decided to go to a movie, which is something that we haven’t done since before you were born. Daddy let me pick out the movie and of course I wanted to go to a sappy love story. We enjoyed the time out together and you were sleeping when we got home.

 

 

The following weekend we were looking forward to Grandpa Adams and Janet to come visit. We were also going to take family pictures at Olbrich Gardens in Madison. We had so much fun even though it was a little chilly and rainy. After the photos you fell right to sleep. I think all of the fresh air wore you out. We met up with Grandpa and Janet and went on a tour at EPIC, where your Daddy works. You and I didn’t make it on the tour, instead  we stayed in the car so I could nurse you. You and I found a way to entertain ourselves. That evening we enjoyed some nice pizzas and you went to bed early because you were so tired from our long day.

Nobody knew what was about to happen to Mommy overnight…

Mommy knew you must be getting teeth again as you weren’t sleeping well at night and your mood was so off. I tried everything to help you through it! What ended up working was a lot of snuggle time with Mommy and Daddy, mainly through the early morning hours. It almost seemed as if we had a newborn again as we weren’t getting much sleep. Thankfully, on March 11, the evidence of teeth were there. You had three trying to poke through on the top at once. I understand now why it was so awful for you… It was over and we could all get some sleep now.

I found this awesome group for moms and babies called Stroller Strides. They meet every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at a local fitness arena. Once the weather is nice we will meet outdoors at a park. The group focuses on the fitness of us mommy’s while interacting with you and the other babies through songs and a lot of jumping around. The entire hour you are entertained while you sit in the jogging stroller. We both loved it so much, all of the women were so nice and most of them are stay-at-home moms just like me.

We were also looking forward to having your Auntie Chrissy come to Madison for the weekend. This time she was coming alone and leaving your cousins at home with their Daddy. It was  nice for your Mommy to see her sister without all of the distractions. Although, we missed the kiddos a lot… Auntie Chrissy spoiled you with lots of kisses and playtime. She couldn’t believe how big you were getting. We had to go on a shopping trip because Auntie Chrissy wanted to buy you a toy, like you don’t have enough. She bought you a lion that plays music. Mommy found the volume switch very quickly because Daddy liked to play it over and over again. On Sunday morning Auntie Chrissy took you to the grocery store to buy you finger foods to start trying. She was spoiling you tons…

You were starting to wake up in the middle of the night after sleeping through the night for almost a month. Mommy had a sneaky suspicion that you were getting teeth again. I would get up and nurse you back to sleep and that seemed to help. It is so hard not knowing why you are waking up and if you are in pain. Mommy likes to give you the extra cuddle if it makes you feel better.

Five years=1 wedding, 1 baby, and 1 PhD…

Life is GREAT! Mommy and Daddy celebrated at home where we loved to be. We were here with you, our greatest gift and reward of the five years we have been together. Mommy and Daddy met on a blind date on February 22nd, 2007. That date just happens to be your Great Nana’s birthday. You will learn a lot about her someday…

We had to go see an Eye Doctor today for your clogged tear duct. Your left eye hasn’t been flushing the tears like it should be. Because of the constant stream of tears, your skin around your eye is usually red and swollen. It doesn’t seem to bother you too much. The doctor did a full eye examination, which you loved. She had all kinds of neat toys to get your attention. You giggled when she put the funny contraption on hear head to look deeper into your eyes. She said that someday you may need glasses. You get that from your Daddy!!! They decided to do a probing on your eye in the office. This attempt was to see if they could puncture the membrane that may be clogging your tear duct. Mommy couldn’t be in the room while they did this… I held it together until I left you in the nurses arms. Within five minutes the Doctor came out to get me and you were just fine. As soon as you saw Mommy you clung to me and fell asleep within ten minutes of the procedure.

On February 11th, 2012 Mommy decided to step away from the salon for good. I enjoyed being home with you and watching you grow so much that my passion for hair was now my second passion. I didn’t want to have any regrets once you were older and no longer needed Mommy as much. It was a bittersweet day for me. I had been an Aveda stylist for 12 amazing years. However, I knew I could always go back to doing hair. You wouldn’t be young again…

Staying home with you full-time was like our new beginning. I was so thankful that the work your Daddy was doing, was enough for me to be home with you. We are lucky to have that option!!!

YEAH!!! We couldn’t believe it! Our little boy was growing up so fast and he was becoming such a little man. We celebrated by picking up a delicious cupcake for you. Of course you couldn’t enjoy the taste of it so Mommy and Daddy devoured it for you. It was a peanut butter and jelly cupcake with delicious frosting on top. We put a candle in it and sang “Happy 1/2 Birthday” to you.

It was time to celebrate Mommy’s 31st birthday… Last year for my 30th birthday I was 3 months pregnant with you. It was an awesome birthday present. This year Mommy and Daddy left you home with Nana and Grandpa and went out for a nice supper in Mankato. It was so nice to have a night out with friends and Auntie Chrissy and Jeremy. It was one of the few nights that Mommy and Daddy have been away from you. It was nice to know that you were in good hands so we could enjoy ourselves.

We had your 6 month check up and we couldn’t wait to see how much you had grown… You weighed 16lbs 12oz(26.15%) and your height was 27.5″(76.54%). You were getting so tall and we couldn’t believe how much you were changing. You were becoming this little man…

We have been feeding you solid food for quite awhile now and you are started to experience a little constipation. The last time we took you to Dawn, the Craniosacral Therapist, she was able to help with the flow of your digestion process. You often filled your diaper while she was massaging you. I brought you to her for a total of four sessions and it helped you tremendously.

I have been learning many lessons from you lately. Most importantly is the ability for me to have patience. I don’t know what you are going through and how you are feeling. I have to trust my instincts which at times can be the most challenging thing to do. You are growing so much everyday and something new catches your eye which makes you want to explore and figure it out. You have gone from a baby that naps on a dime, to a baby that fights with every last bit of energy you have. Often times you are asleep in my arms before I put you down for your nap. I must admit I was being a little selfish at times since I loved snuggling you to sleep. However, if I resort to that for every nap I can see it being a little challenging the older you get.
