Best Friends Forever

I am starting to see you form “real” relationships with people. It amazes me how you can remember faces! We were fianlly able to find a day that would work for Miss Elouise and Auntie Hilary to come visit. We even got to take Elouise to school with us. It was so much fun to see the two of you together, playing with all of your friends. The afternoon was filled with lots of giggles and running. When I say running, I mean you chasing Elouise… Elouise would get you to chase her and then when it was time for her to chase you, she quit. Mommy and auntie Hilary were laughing so hard because we are already seeing the similarities in the two of you that remind us of when we were little. Someday you will learn of the friendship Mommy and Auntie Hilary have, and I only hope that you and Elouise have already started to form the same type of bond…

Success on the Potty

Today started out like any other day… Except, this morning you kept saying “poopy, potty.” So I decided to try putting you on the potty to see what would happen. Mommy even made up a song about pooping!!! I am glad you were my only audience. After about ten minutes you weren’t interested anymore, and mommy didn’t want to force you. So we went about our day until… After lunch you seemed to keep your distance from me, which is often an indicator that you have some business to take care of. So I made it exciting and told you we could go sit on the potty and read stories. You were interested in this! You settled in and got comfy on the potty and we began to read stories. In between books mommy kept telling you to “push!” About ten minutes later you had this look of curiosity as your poopy went plop… You immediately started clapping and chanting, “poopy, potty!” I was so proud! You are becoming such a big boy and I am so glad that I get to help you achieve these milestones!!!

Life is Precious

Daddy and Mommy have been doing “date night” at home every Thursday night for the last few months. We usually wait until you go to bed and either Daddy or Mommy plan a fun date… This particular evening your Auntie Chrissy and cousins wanted to have a slumber party with you at their house. How exciting for you and Mommy and Daddy! So instead of doing an “at home” date, we decided to go out. It was so much fun and we enjoyed a nice glass of wine and good conversation. Most of the conversation, of course, was about you.

Daddy and I were on our way home when we received a call that shook our world… Grandpa Dave was having chest pains all day, and Auntie Jen and Edy took him to the ER. Of course we were all nervous and hoping for the best. Until… I got the call from Jen confirming that Dave was in the midst of a heart attack. What? How could this be happening?!? As you will soon learn, your Grandpa Dave is a strong-willed man and it takes a lot to bring him down. Since you were already at Auntie Chrissy’s house, Mommy and Daddy jumped back in the car and headed to the hospital.

We were all together and waiting for the doctor to fill us in. We were so thankful to hear that Grandpa Dave was going to be ok! The scariest part of this was the thought that Grandpa’s life was going to be cut too short….

Grandpa spent a few long days in the hospital, but he was able to come home on Easter! HOORAY! We love you Grandpa!!!

Feeling Down and Out

It all began with a slight fever, something that we haven’t really experienced with you at all. So this scared Mommy a little bit! I of course called your Auntie Hilary as Elouise has had to deal with multiple different sicknesses. Poor girl! Hilary put Mommies fears at ease and reassured me to go with my gut. We watched your fever for the next day or so and you didn’t seem to be phased by it. However, on day #2 you were just completely out of it and it made Mommy and Daddy worry. So we took you to the doctor to find out that you had a mild case of croup… For the next 3 nights Mommy slept with you right by her side! Your breathing was so goofy and it made it hard for you to get a good night of rest. After many baths a day and a good cool mist humidifier, it seemed like you were starting to finally feel better. I think you were starting to get used to sleeping with Mommy, but I didn’t sleep well in fear of rolling over on you. The transition back into your bed wasn’t too painful! But it made me think of when I was little and didn’t feel well, and all I ever wanted was my Mom… So as tired as I was throughout this week, I wouldn’t change a thing about the extra love and care you received.

Keys, Keys, Keys…

You amaze me everyday with your growing knowledge of how things work. For instance, lately you have been extremely fascinated with keys. Anytime you hear the jingle of keys in Daddy’s pocket you immediately chant “keys.” You will go over to the door and actually try and put the key in the slot. If I tell you that we are going to go get groceries, you will say “keys… car.” It amazes me how you are able to form those thoughts and that you know what things go with others. I can’t keep track of how many times a day you say “Daddy… Work… Car…” I might be a little biased, well maybe a lot but you are so smart.

My Emmaus Retreat

Mommy had heard about a retreat for women wishing to experience a faith filled journey. I realized it was something that I was very eager to attend. I went by myself on a 3 day retreat that I didn’t know much about. I knew you would be just fine since you loved spending quality time with your Daddy.

The experience I had on my retreat was life changing! I realized once I stepped foot in the door, my faith had been restored and it was time to say goodbye to any doubts or fears. As much as I missed not seeing your beautiful face during my time away, I knew it was best for Mommy to have this time.

Since the day you were conceived my life has greatly changed! I feel closer to God, and I know it is because of you George! This retreat helped Mommy see the beauty in the unknown and gave me courage to just believe…

Happy LoVe Day

Today is recognized as Valentines Day, the day of love… In our household that is everyday, but Mommy couldn’t help make it an extra special day. I woke up early to make special cinnamon rolls! It made Mommy realize that waking up early to enjoy the quiet of the morning is nice. You were delighted to see a red candle in the center of your roll… We made Daddy a special card filled with your drawings. You even picked out the card yourself. It was a close up photo of a bulgy eyed puppy. It made Daddy laugh!!! The day of Love is so much more special for Mommy and Daddy now that we can celebrate it with you!

George and the Potty

Lately you have been showing interest in using the toilet. I realize that while I stay at home with you, there are not a lot of things left to your imagination… Often times the bathroom is like your second play area. Not by my choice, but fear of what may happen if I close the door is pretty great. So I believe your interest has stemmed from your curiosity… Instead of a potty chair, we purchased a nice little seat that sits on the toilet. It was extremely adorable the first time you sat on it! It also made Mommy realize how big you really are. Although, we haven’t actually had success while sitting on the potty, I know it will only be in due time that you are doing it on your own.

St. Johns University Here We Come…

On January 28th your Daddy received a phone call from the Dean of St. John’s offering him a fulltime Assistant Professor position. WOW! We were all so proud of him, but secretly knew he would do great. We received the call so quick after the interview that it took away the anxiety of the wait. Hooray, we are moving again… What a fun new adventure we had ahead of us. Even though we were moving further away from our family, it still would beat the five hour drive that Madison used to be. One of the nice things about relocating so often is that Mommy can get rid of things that we do not need anymore. You have always been a good helper with that!

Mommy is starting to realize that all of the lessons I have been teaching you, are coming to life. You will grow up knowing that Mommy is a very affectionate person, sometimes you have to stop me from giving you too many kisses.

The other day, while Mommy was dusting, you were playing in your room and you came to find me and gave me a great big hug. The purposeful hug, the kind where I felt your little fingers rubbing my back. Another example of the love and affection you have, happens at night when I tuck you in… As we snuggle in the rocking chair and sing songs, Mommy usually rubs your little back. Well, as soon as you feel that Mommy is slowing down, your whole back sways back and forth showing me that clearly you aren’t ready for me to stop. You do these things and it reminds me that you are indeed becoming a little man!

Your vocabulary is starting to resemble words that Mommy and Daddy can understand. Although, we know you have been talking the whole time, we can now understand you!

Words: Mama, Daddy (you say this all the time;), Nana, Grandma, Cheese, Cracker, Apple, Hot, Teeth, Keys, Kitty Cat, Ball….

What fascinates Mommy the most, is how you understand everything I am saying. If I tell you to “go get the book about Bugs,” you will march right over to that book and pick it up! You amaze me daily!
