Once we brought you home life was SO PERFECT! Your Mommy couldn’t sleep because she just wanted to keep her eyes on you. You were a good sleeper!!! You slept in a bassinet next to our bed every night. Mommy even had you next to her when she took a nap. Your Nana stayed with us the first week. We loved having her here taking good care of all of us. She cooked, cleaned, and held you all the time. She was so supportive even during those middle of the night feedings. One particular night Mommy and Daddy were having trouble feeding you and I of course broke down. Nana was right there to reassure us that you were going to be just fine. She would say, “just talk to him, and let him hear your voice.” Those words were the best advice. You were just trying to get accustomed to your new world and everything was so new. We wanted Nana to move in with us, well at least you and I. We had a lot of appointments for you since you had lost a little weight before leaving the hospital. We went to see a woman named Joan, a lactation specialist, who was like an Angel to me. As soon as we sat down with her and explained what was happening she immediately threw her hands up and said, “You just aren’t latching him right!” Because she made it sound so simple, I gained all of my confidence back and with that she taught us how to do it. When I say us, I mean both Daddy and I. We worked great as a team doing something that neither of us thought a few years ago, we would be doing. After a few solid days of trying at home, you were eating like a pro. It was a great feeling to know that I was able to give you everything you needed.

You had so many people come to visit you while you were still in the hospital. Your Nana and Grandpa Dave were the first ones to meet you. They were on a vacation only 2 hrs. from Madison, so they came right over when they got the call. They were so excited and happy to meet you. We gave you your first bath when we settled into our suite. You didn’t enjoy it too much! Mommy was able to snuggle you afterwards and you settled in for the evening. Your Grandma and Grandpa Wiebold drove all the way from Minnesota and came to the hospital immediately. It was 3AM! They couldn’t wait to kiss and hug you. Your Godmother, Chrissy came to see you without her babies so she could have some alone time with you. I was so happy she came as she was such an amazing support throughout my pregnancy. Your Auntie Jen was in Italy, so we were able to talk to her the day after you were born. She couldn’t wait to fly home and see you. The two days in the hospital were incredible and we had so much LOVE in the room. You didn’t leave our sides, even at night like everyone suggested. Daddy was able to do skin to skin with you for a couple of hours. You slept so peacefully the whole time, Precious. We were taking you home on Saturday, July 23rd. It was a beautiful warm day and we were excited to go home and introduce you to Finn. Your Grandpa Adams and Janet came to the hospital to visit right before we were leaving to take you home. Grandpa was so proud to hold his baby grandson.

Mommy had the option to have you placed on my chest immediately,  instead of being taken away to be weighed and measured. You and I spent the first twenty minutes of your life snuggling and kissing. They placed a hat and blanket around you and gave your Daddy and I some time to soak in the miraculous feeling. You introduced Mommy to your ability to urinate when a little chilled, it wasn’t the last time Mommy experienced this! You weighed 7lbs and 8oz, measuring 19 inches long. We had the greatest nurse,  and she ordered a meal for Daddy and I immediately after giving birth so that we could eat ASAP. I have never tasted a better grilled cheese sandwich and french fries. Your Daddy got his traditional cheeseburger and french fries and we both washed our food down with a delicious chocolate malt. We were about to go upstairs where we would settle into our family suite. I mean suite, because they were brand new rooms that were equipped with a double bed for both Mommy and Daddy and a Spa-like bathroom that was so comforting. We were so excited to get to know you and all of the lessons we were about to learn as new parents.
